BREAKDOWN:

Many music enthusiasts encounter a major challenge in merging their passion for music to enhance their knowledge of musical concepts. Traditional music education platforms often fall short of providing an engaging and cohesive experience. As a result, users find themselves switching between different apps for music streaming and learning materials, leading to a disjointed and less seamless learning journey.

THUS, I ASKED:

How can it be created a feature that combines music streaming with interactive learning for a seamless user experience?

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Spotify Music Academy aims to integrate comprehensive music education within the Spotify platform, offering users an interactive and engaging way to learn about music. By leveraging Spotify's extensive music library and user data, the academy will provide personalized learning experiences that cater to diverse musical interests and skill levels.

Project Timeline

The integration timeline consists of three key phases: research, conceptualization, and wireframe development, followed by documentation and handoff. The research phase, lasting 2 to 4 weeks, involves market and user research to define user personas and scope features. Next, a 2-week conceptualization phase refines ideas and establishes a framework. The subsequent 3 to 4 weeks are dedicated to wireframe development, progressing from low to high fidelity, with user testing to validate usability. Finally, a 1-week documentation phase prepares the handoff package for development.


OBJECTIVES:

  1. Enhance User Engagement: Increase user engagement by offering interactive music learning content alongside traditional music streaming.

  2. Expand Spotify's Offerings: Diversify Spotify's service portfolio by integrating educational content, attracting a wider audience.

THOUGHTFUL EXECUTION TREE:

Upon conducting some research, I came across a Spotify Research template that I would like to include in my case study. This template emphasized the significance of following a well-planned product development process. It suggested presenting the process in a tree structure to help facilitate development by ensuring that the necessary steps are followed in order. The approach encourages a broad approach to problem identification and hypothesis creation before focusing on specific solutions.

USER PROFILE & JOURNEY:

I believe that a smooth and delightful experience is what keeps me using an app regularly. Being a Spotify user, I understand the importance of user data in the development of new integrations. In this case study, I created four different profiles to better understand the problem statement and come up with possible solutions.

After the recent update to Spotify's design principles, I was inspired to incorporate those principles into my project idea. I wanted the project to be relevant, human, and unified, to provide individuals with a new tool to not only listen to music but also to create it. I aimed to promote self-expression and foster a sense of unity among music enthusiasts.

WIREFRAME IDEATION:

In the ongoing process of developing the wireframe ideation, my primary focus is centered around the concept of "education and interactivity" in learning music. This aligns closely with how Spotify already exemplifies these principles in its interface design.

Incorporating my own custom illustrations added a unique touch to the project, infusing it with character. The “Search Screen” prioritizes highlighting recommendations for genres, artists, and instruments to provide a more personalized user experience. This emphasis is achieved through leveraging algorithms and user-specific data insights.

Amongst all screens, the “Search Screen” stands out as crucial since the project's primary goal is to simplify the process of discovering suitable and intriguing content for the user.
